NYU teaching clinic in Downtown Brooklyn

NYU Dentistry's Downtown Brooklyn clinic sits on Flatbush Avenue Extension as a satellite of NYU College of Dentistry's teaching program. Care is delivered by supervised dental students under direct faculty oversight, which is a different model from a private practice — visits run longer because the work is being learned and checked, but the cost is substantially lower for routine fillings, cleanings, and basic restorative care for patients without strong dental insurance.
Cavity treatment is one of the most common procedures here. Students handle tooth-colored composite fillings under faculty review, with the supervising dentist signing off on the diagnostic call, the cavity preparation, and the final restoration. The clinic covers single-surface and multi-surface fillings, replacement work when an old filling has failed, and the kind of routine restorative dentistry that fits the curriculum. Beyond fillings, services include cleanings, exams, root canals, crowns and bridges, extractions, dentures, and basic restorative work — all delivered through the same teaching model and at reduced fees relative to private practice.
If you've been quoted a number for a filling at a private dentist that doesn't fit your budget, a screening visit at the teaching clinic will tell you whether the same work can be done through the supervised student program.
Patients searching for affordable family dental care in Brooklyn, family dentist in Brooklyn, or routine dental care in Brooklyn who are price-sensitive often start at teaching clinics like this one. The tradeoffs are honest — longer chair time, the academic-calendar scheduling rhythm, and the slightly less polished bedside manner of supervised students. For uninsured Brooklyn residents, students themselves, and anyone whose budget makes private-practice fees difficult, this Downtown Brooklyn NYU teaching clinic is the affordable starting point. Six-month recall scheduling is the strongest predictor of which patients catch problems early, and most practices will book the next visit before you leave the current one if you ask while you're checking out.
NYU Dentistry's Downtown Brooklyn clinic provides patient care delivered by supervised dental students under faculty oversight — routine general dentistry at reduced fees relative to private practice.

PROS: Clean environment, pleasant dental professionals, great downtown Brooklyn location, when appointments are finally scheduled you are seen on time. CONS: Scheduling is ridiculously unprofessional—it took months to complete a simple replacement crown procedure that should have taken at most 2-3 weeks. One implant took a full year solely because of their scheduling issues. The billing procedures are ad hoc, the prices and balances change on each visit without discernible cause. They are virtually unreachable by phone unless they call you. I suggest that they be used for simple cleanings only unless they work out their poor scheduling, administration and customer service.
The NYU Dentistry Flatbush extension is conveniently located with easy access via public transit, making it highly practical for Brooklyn residents. The reception team operates with notable efficiency, maintaining smooth check-ins and clear communication. Trisha, in particular, consistently delivers prompt, accurate service and demonstrates a high level of professionalism that sets the tone for the entire visit.
Iv been going for 6 months and haven’t had 1 cavity filled they have been working on 1 tooth for 6 months since September, they claim their TO busy and give 1 appointment a month even though I need extensive work and the doctor enforced 2 appointments a month BUT communication doesn’t exist there, on top of that NOONE is ever up there and they have more cancellations then iv ever seen at any office so i don’t see how their so busy… they don’t follow your dental plan at all I was supposed to get a cavity filled last appointment in my plan but they failed to do anything yet again. my sister graduated nyu this past year and for some reason this dental office is an absolute TERRRIBLE representation of NYU hopefully they can finish something this next appointment, the feeling of care a provider is supposed to give is absolutely absent at this office, switching dentist is a lot when you need extensive work like me, but I am still valid in my opinion and sharing my terrible experience with you guys. I’ll keep you guys updated! P.s take note how of the rapid progression of decay.
Horrible, rushed service from most staff, including the actual medical professionals. You would quicker suffer health problems because of their lack of service, lack of available appointments and inefficiency, best to seek treatment elsewhere.
First let me start by saying the doctors here are really great and thorough BUT if you want their care you do have to suffer through their godawful staff! They are by far the rudest staff in all of the NYU network. If you call, they’ll be curt with you, pass snide remarks and hang up the phone abruptly. This is IF they answer the phone at all lol. It’s like they feel joy in being horrible to customers. Why they even work there, who knows? They’ve called me 5 times over the last three weeks to confirm the appointment (not an automated call, an actual human) repeatedly! Three of those calls have been consecutively over the last 3 business days. Left hand doesn’t even talk to the right hand. Now, that isn’t harassment? I get less spam calls then I do from them to confirm an appt I already confirmed the first out of the 5 times they have called. There is no way to opt out of their unnecessary calls. Meanwhile, if you ask them to please schedule out your cleaning 6 months in advance so you don’t forget to make the appointment since they’re never going to remind you anyway, that option does not exist - what a joke.
