Factors to Consider When Choosing Your Dentist

Each dentist is different from another.

They may have different skills and approaches due to their different career background. Having graduated from different universities can lead to very different styles of treatment.
There has been huge increase in number of new dentists working in Sydney recently, many of these new dentists are either coming from overseas or new graduating schools.

You might have also found that many of dentists declare themselves “Cosmetic Dentists” or call their facilities “State of the Art”. Interestingly, you find these exact same phrases all over the world – even including many developing countries.

You may, however, realize that reality is often not same as what is perceived.

Here are the tips which many international dental associations are recommending on finding good dentists in different cities.

1. Find out how long the dentist has been working for his experience

Ask which university he had graduated. In Australia, University of Sydney is regarded to be the top school for training dental graduates. You will soon notice that there are many interstate or even overseas trained dentists working in Sydney CBD.

2. Find out how advance the treatment equipment/ facility is.

This often reflects how thorough dentist’s treatment philosophy is.

3. Find out how active the dentist is in up to date continuing education.

You can ask about the types of professional dental societies the dentist participates in. Some societies require dentists to take continuing education classes to keep them up-to-date on the latest procedures and technological advances in the field. If your needs include cosmetic dentistry procedures, ask to see before-and-after photos of the dentist’s previous patients.

4. Is the dental team friendly and courteous?

You may not want to see a dentist long term if you don’t feel comfortable with the dentist’s team.
