About Brooklyn Oak Dental Care

Brooklyn Oak Dental Care runs a general practice on 4th Avenue in Park Slope, a few blocks from the Gowanus border where the brownstone residential blocks transition into the lower-density commercial corridor. The patient base is the surrounding Park Slope and Gowanus community — families with school-age kids, professionals working in Manhattan or downtown Brooklyn, and longtime neighborhood residents who want a regular dental practice for the day-to-day rather than a specialty-focused office.

Filling work covers the routine general-dentistry range. The team handles tooth-colored composite restorations across all surfaces, replacement fillings when older work has cracked or leaked, and the diagnostic call between filling and crown when a tooth has lost more structure to decay. Beyond fillings, services include cleanings and exams, root canals, crowns and bridges, extractions, gum-disease screening, teeth whitening, and emergency visits. They'll review prior X-rays when patients bring records from previous practices, which gives the diagnostic call more context than starting completely from scratch.

If you've moved to Park Slope or Gowanus from another city and you're picking a new dentist, a new-patient exam that builds on your existing chart is more efficient than re-doing every baseline assessment.

Patients searching for family dentist in Brooklyn, dentist for whole family in Brooklyn, or general dentistry in Brooklyn, NY who live in Park Slope, Gowanus, or Boerum Hill often weigh practices like this one for the proximity and the routine general-dentistry focus. Brooklyn Oak fits that local pattern. The new-patient appointment typically combines comprehensive radiographs, periodontal screening, and a treatment-plan review at one visit before any restorative work is scheduled. For Park Slope and Gowanus families picking a regular general dental practice, this 4th Avenue office is a reasonable first appointment. Brooklyn dental capacity tightens and loosens by season — if the practice isn't accepting new patients on first call, asking about a waitlist position is worth the two minutes before moving on to other options.

Brooklyn Oak Dental Care runs a 4th Avenue practice in Park Slope, providing general dentistry — cleanings, fillings, crowns, and routine family restorative care.

I never thought I would say this, but they’ve made going to the dentist a magical experience 😂. You enter and the receptionists are super kind AND they have tea. Then you go in, and immediately Dr. Akapo tells you in her warm voice, “remember, we’re a team, so if anything is bothering you, tell me immediately.” And then PROCEEDS to ask you every time something changes a perfectly exact question so that even if something is bothering you a bit, she’ll make the changes you need… maybe even before you realized you needed it yourself! Once whatever is done, she’ll explain everything so thoroughly you’ll go from being entirely bored by the dentistry profession to being entranced. There’s a whole world in there! And we never even think about it. Ok, I think you should get the point by now. Best dentist ever. And the fact that I’m so enthusiastic about a dentist… really says something!

I had a very unfortunate event happen that resulted in me needing emergency care. Upon arriving to the facility, I was greeted with warmth and professionalism. Dr. Akapo treated two damaged teeth of mine and did so in a very gentle way. She took time to communicate with me before, during, and after the procedure; which is, in my opinion, important in dentistry. I’m no fan of dental appointments, but after today’s visit, I will be a returning patient. Don’t bother looking elsewhere, could not recommend them more.

I’ve been coming here for a couple of years now and everyone here is super nice and professional. Dr. Akapo treated me for the first time today, and she was lovely. I expressed my anxiety with dental work, and she took her time to explain what she was doing and kept checking in to see that I was ok. Highly recommended.

I loved every visit here & the staff is amazing! I was taken care of by Dr. Akapo, she was very informative with what was going on with my teeth she helped me get them to a healthier state. She made me feel cared about and I really appreciated that. I was in really great caring hands and that meant a lot to me because I am terrified of the dentist and she changed that!! I will definitely be going back!! Don’t hesitate to book an appointment it’s worth it

Brooklyn Oak was as wonderful of an experience as a dentist visit could be. The staff answering phones were knowledgeable, reception is welcoming, pre-appointment forms were easy to complete, and most importantly, both the hygienist and dentist performing my exam and cleaning were thorough, professional, a dare I say… fun. My new go-to!
