Childrens Dental Center and Big People, Too!

I recently visited Children’s Dental Center in San Jose off North Capitol with my son. Upon arrival, the office looked very clean and well-kept, and the front desk staff was friendly. The dental assistant who took my son’s X-rays was kind and very patient, which I appreciated. However, there were several things I didn’t agree with that made me decide not to return. I was told only one parent was allowed in the back with the child and that no parents are allowed in the room during treatment. While I understand every office has their own policies, as a parent of a young child, this just didn’t sit right with me and made me uncomfortable. Dr. Alvarez, who examined my son, seemed to rush through the appointment. When I tried to ask questions, his responses felt dismissive and often came off as smart remarks rather than helpful explanations. He only presented two treatment options: full sedation or a sealant that would slow down the decay — with no in-between or further discussion. Additionally, he repeatedly brought up my insurance and emphasized its limitations, implying that I would need to pay out of pocket for better care. The way this was communicated felt harsh and lacking compassion. Overall, I left the appointment feeling unheard and dissatisfied. I value clear communication and empathy when it comes to my child’s care, and unfortunately, I did not experience that here.

I don’t recommend Went there today, they don’t allow one parent inside while child is receiving any of their dental treatment, whether it’s cleaning only or any dental work If this is a kid’s dental why wouldn’t they allow dad or mom inside to keep the child calmed and more at ease? It makes me believe they are not trustworthy I can’t leave my 8 year old in there by herself ! Sad they don’t understand how hard it can be for certain children, specially autistic kids like my daughter! They showed no compassion or empathy at all I DO NOT RECOMMEND

Doctor Helen she is great with children . She is very respectful to my children’s feelings and goes out of her to make them feel comfortable . Very clean and friendly office staff . Here she goes to get her crowns and fillings .

Fantastic care for my son! They went above and beyond to give him the special care that he needed. Doctors were amazing at giving him the care he needed and keeping me informed all along thru the process 😊 Everyone who works here is friendly, kind, caring, and great at their job! From our very first call and thru the whole process we felt welcomed, happy, safe and cared for💙 Thank you so much to everyone there!! And we recommend them to anyone, even big people too😊

Mimi is very attentive and friendly. She immediately figured out how to make my special needs son feel comfortable. My son would try to take off running other times at other dentists. I’m happy I found this place because my son actually let himself do an X-ray and cooperated with Mimi. Also front staff and doctors are friendly and patient.
